Risnjak National Park

Covering 6350ha, Risnjak National Park is a biodiversity haven with dense forests, breathtaking mountain vistas and the clear blue spring of the Kupa River. Its highest peak reaches 1528m, while the Kupa Valley sits at 290m. Serving as a climate barrier between Croatia's coastal and continental regions, the park connects the Alps with the Balkans. Kupa River

The Kupa River is a must-see in Gorski Kotar with its crystal-clear waters and vibrant turquoise spring. The source of the Kupa was declared a protected area in 1963 and spans 10ha. It is one of Croatia's deepest and most powerful wellsprings, reaching a maximum depth of 156m. The valley of the Kupa, also known as the Butterfly Valley, due to its rich biodiversity and abundance of various butterfly species, is an unmissable highlight of Risnjak National Park.

Dobra River

The Dobra River is famed for its striking turquoise waters and diverse flora and fauna. The river spans about 60km and flows through beautiful landscapes before merging with the Kupa River. With its challenging current, it's a popular location for kayaking and rafting.

Kamacnik Canyon

This breathtaking canyon stretches approximately 5km long and is characterized by its steep cliffs that rise up to 100m high in some areas. The Kamacnik River winds its way through, shaping beautiful waterfalls and rapids, which make it a sought-after spot for hikers and photographers. Zeleni Vir Waterfall

Zeleni Vir is a picturesque waterfall, located near the town of Skrad. Zeleni Vir translates to Green Whirlpool. The name comes from the vibrant green color of the pool at the base of the waterfall, which is fed by an underground spring. The waterfall cascades down a cliff approximately 70m high, creating a dramatic sight in this densely forested area.

Vrazji Prolaz Canyon

Vrazji Prolaz or Devil’s Passage got its name from the narrow, towering cliffs and thunderous sound of the water below. This 800m long canyon is exceptionally narrow, with cliff walls that rise up to 100m in height but are sometimes only a few meters apart. To explore the canyon, you can follow wooden walkways and narrow bridges that cling to the rock walls.

Winnetou

Winnetou, the famous character created by the German writer Karl May, embodies the adventurous spirit of the American West. This spirit is reflected in the cowboy town built in Fuzine for the Winnetou films from 1967 and 2016. The area captures the essence of wilderness and storytelling, making it a unique spot for those who appreciate both nature and literature.
