Stage 1: Krk – Milohnići
The Krk Island Trail begins in the historic town of Krk and covers a scenic 23 km journey on its first day, with highlights including medieval churches, monasteries and the iconic Frankopan Castle. The trail winds through the old town’s narrow streets, past ancient city walls and landmarks, before continuing along the coastline and into peaceful olive groves. As the route progresses through the lush Šotovento area, you pass historical sites, hidden coves and quiet countryside, ending the day in the village of Milohnići.
Stage 2: Milohnići – Malinska
Day two of the Krk Island Trail covers approximately 17 km, taking you from Milohnići to the vibrant coastal town of Malinska. This stage continues through the lush Šotovento region, combining peaceful forest trails, seaside paths and authentic island villages. Along the way, highlights include the Romanesque Church of St Chrysogonus tucked away in the forest, a majestic centuries-old oak tree and scenic viewpoints near Fumak. The route finishes in Malinska, offering a perfect blend of nature, history and local island charm.
Stage 3: Malinska – Omišalj
Day three of the Krk Island Trail covers around 21 km, guiding you from Malinska to the historic town of Omišalj in the north of the island. This scenic stage follows the coastline along the popular Paradise Trail. Highlights include the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Njivice, as well as important archaeological sites such as the Roman settlement of Fulfinum and the early Christian complex at Mirine. The route continues through forest paths and panoramic viewpoints before descending towards Omišalj, where you can explore cultural landmarks like the Church of St Helen and the Parish Church of the Assumption.
Stage 4: Omišalj – Čižići
Day four of the Krk Island Trail stretches approximately 22 km, leading from Omišalj to Čižići along the island’s northern coastline. Starting near Dubec Park, you pass scenic bays such as Večja and Lučica, the Krk Bridge viewpoint, and historic sites like the Venetian Maltempo Fort. Natural highlights include the rugged coastline of the Vinodol Channel, the sandy Slivanjska Cove, and the fascinating Biserujka Cave, known for its impressive stalactites and underground formations. The route continues through rural villages and forested areas before reaching Čižići, with a final stop at the remains of St Peter’s Church.
Stage 5: Čižići – Vrbnik
Day five of the Krk Island Trail spans approximately 21 km, guiding you from Čižići to the picturesque town of Vrbnik. Starting along the scenic Soline Bay, known for its shallow waters and healing mud, the route passes through Soline and climbs up towards Dobrinj, a historic hilltop village with deep Glagolitic roots. Along the way, you encounter charming churches, traditional settlements, and the remains of abandoned villages hidden in the countryside. The journey continues via Risika back to the coast, leading to Vrbnik, one of the most iconic towns on Krk Island, perched on a dramatic cliff above the sea.
Stage 6: Vrbnik – Baška
Day six of the Krk Island Trail covers approximately 25 km, leading from Vrbnik to the coastal town of Baška. This stage takes you through the fertile Vrbnik Field, widely known for its long tradition of wine production, before continuing into a more rugged and adventurous landscape. Highlights include the source of the Vela Rika River, scenic climbing areas, and the striking Moon Plateau – an iconic, barren landscape that offers panoramic views and a unique, almost lunar atmosphere. The route descends towards Baška via the scenic Path to the Moon, ending in a vibrant coastal setting. After reaching Baška’s harbour, make sure to take the Baška Glagolitic Alphabet Trail, where stone sculptures celebrate the region’s deep-rooted connection to the Glagolitic script.
Stage 7: Baška – Punat
Day seven of the Krk Island Trail stretches approximately 17 km and is the most challenging stage. The trail features steep climbs, technical terrain, and rewarding panoramic views from the island's highest ridges. Starting in Baška, the route leads to Jurandvor, home to the famous Baška Tablet, one of Croatia's oldest and most important cultural monuments. Continue through Batomalj before climbing to the restored mrgar at Lipica, a traditional dry-stone sheepfold unique to the Kvarner Islands. From here, the trail crosses the island's rugged plateau, rewarding your efforts with breathtaking views over Krk Island and the Adriatic Sea. The route then descends to the charming seaside town of Punat, nestled on the shores of the sheltered Puntarska Draga Bay.
Stage 8: Punat – Krk
The final stage of the Krk Island Trail is a relaxed coastal walk of 14 km from Punat to the historic town of Krk. Leaving the sheltered Puntarska Draga Bay, a popular destination for sailing and other water sports, the trail follows scenic seaside paths with beautiful views across the Adriatic and the islet of Košljun. This tiny, forested island is home to a 15th-century Franciscan monastery and has long been a place of pilgrimage and tranquillity. Along the way, pass hidden coves, rocky beaches, and fragrant Mediterranean vegetation before reaching the medieval streets of Krk Town. Celebrate the completion of the trail by exploring the charming old town, home to impressive Venetian walls, the Frankopan Castle, and the magnificent Cathedral of the Assumption.
